Recover Deleted Facebook Messages

Recover Deleted Facebook Messages [+Backup]

There are somethings in the world which, if lost, are hard to recover(trust anybody?). The same is the case with Facebook Messages.

If you have deleted Facebook messages, then the chances of getting them back are slim.

Let’s see how you can recover deleted Facebook messages and backup them to be on the safe side next time.

Recover deleted Facebook messages

There is no direct way to do this. But we have researched compiled three ways to retrieve deleted Facebook messages. Let’s see each one of them.

Check Archive Conversations

If some conversations are not showing, then it doesn’t mean they are always deleted. They could have been archived. Archiving is different than deletion, and it can be retrieved easily. Here’s how

  1. Login to your Facebook account and open the Facebook Messenger app.
  2. Search the name of the person in the chat section.
  3. Click on their name to see the complete chat.

Check Facebook Notifications in Email

If you had email notifications enabled on Facebook, then there is a chance of finding Facebook messages notification in your email.

Sign in to your email and search the person’s name along with Facebook. If Facebook sent you a notification about that message, then it would pop-up in the search results.

Click on that email, and you would be able to read the message( more on how to enable this feature later).

Ask Sender to Send Again

As dumb as it may sound, asking the sender could be your last resort. You can ask them to send you the screenshot of the message or the message itself again. If they haven’t deleted it also, then you are all set.

How to Backup Your Facebook Messages

Whether you recovered your messages or not, you should backup them to be saved in the future. Here are two ways to backup your Facebook Messages.

Enable Email Notifications

Facebook sends notifications on Email addresses too. You can enable it to receive updates about new activities and messages on your account. Here’s how.

  1. Open Facebook.com and login into your account.
  2. Go to “Settings” and then to the “Notification” tab.
  3. Click on the email section to expand it.
  4. Select the option “All notifications except the ones you turn off.”

Now, you’ll receive a notification from Facebook in your email when somebody messages you. This is an excellent way to have a backup of your Facebook activity.

Download Your Messages Data

Facebook also allows you to download all your Facebook data. Things like messages, comments, and interactions can be downloaded in just a click. Here’s how.

  1. Open Facebook.com and login into your account.
  2. Go to “Settings” and then to “Your Facebook Information” tab.
  3. Click “Download your information” and uncheck everything except messages.
  4. Press “Create File.”

Facebook will email you all the data once it’s ready. This is an excellent way to backup your Facebook data as you can view it offline too.
